Character and The Little Things

Character begins with the little things in life. I must show that I can be trusted with each and every thing, no matter how trivial it may seem. Dungy, Tony; Nathan Whitaker (2011-02-21). I'm a big picture, entrepreneurial kind of guy.  Details and consistency aren't normally my thing. My actions communicate a deep belief - one that I didn't realize existed until I started thinking about this post - that I can win hearts, influence decisions, and build character through amazing ideas and sweeping gestures.

Intellectually, I know this isn't true.  You can't buy a child's love through annual trips to the greatest amusement park on the planet followed by 364 days of neglect.  You can't build a business on ideas and ignore the daily grind. Character isn't a latte you order at you're local coffee shop.

Businesses and relationships are built with what you do each moment. Character is the sum of the decisions you make every day.  This is a lesson I'm working to ingrain into my mind, my heart, and my daily practice.
